Application Process and Requirements

To participate in this program, in addition to the regular graduate admission process of the two institutions, students must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Application for admission to the Double Degree Joint International Master Program in Reservoir Management should be sent to geoenergy@unileoben.ac.at
  • Proof of academic degree and study records as certified copies
  • In case the academic degree was not earned at MINES or MUL, diplomas are to be certified in compliance with the national legislation where the application is submitted
  • GRE test scores (Colorado School of Mines institution code: 4073)
  • IELTS minimum score of 6.5. Pearson minimum score of 53 or TOEFL with a minimum of 80. 
  • Statement of Goals
  • A Financial Statement of Support will be needed once accepted for MINES. 
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Resume / Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • MINES non-refundable application fee is required of all applicants. There is no application fee at MUL.
  • Tuition Fees are according to national and international students of each institute's regulations. Students will pay the appropriate tuition and fees at the school they attend each semester. Colorado School of Mines: Tuition and Fees, University of Leoben: Tuition and Fees.

­­The selected students will be registered at both institutions during the whole duration of the Double Degree Joint International Master Program. Upon successful completion of the MINES and MUL requirements of the program, two master's degrees will be awarded.

Application Process for Austrians at Montanuniversität

1. Pre-requisites

  • Hold a high school diploma
    • Anyone without a high school diploma may sit the equivalency test to determine if they are ready for bachelor studies at university
    • You can take equivalency tests for engineering and mining studies at Graz University of Technology
  • Hold a bachelor certificate in Petroleum Engineering
  • English language level – TOEFL: minimum score of 80 internet-based test (iBT) or 550 paper-based test (PBT), IELTS: minimum score of 6.0, or equivalent

2. Admission Process

  • Send a formless application, including Transcripts of Records to geoenergyunileoben.acat
  • Curricular commission at DPE and Gubkin will review your documents
  • Prepare for a Skype interview before the International Committee MUL/Gubkin
    • Written and/or oral exam -depending on your background- for admission at Gubkin University
  • Once your application has been accepted by the International Committee, you will receive an admission notification from both Montanuniversität and Gubkin University
  • Registration at both Montanuniversität and Gubkin University

Bring all original documents to Montanuniversität registrar’s office: Admission Office, Franz-Josef-Straße 18, 8700 Leoben, Austria

  • Passport or birth certificate/proof of citizenship combined with an ID-card
  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate
    • If transferring from another Austrian university, you will also need to bring: Leaving certificate, student statistics form
  • Bachelor Certificate
  • Transcripts
  • Proof of English proficiency

4. Registration at Montanuniversität

Once you have been admitted:

  • Submit your pre-registration online
  • Show evidence of the required documents at the Registrar's Office
  • Pay students' union membership fee [ÖH-Beitrag]
  • Sign into your MU-Online account.
    • Note: For the first access to your MU-Online account, you will need the pin code given to you at registration office
  • Sign-up for classes

Bring all original documents to Montanuniversität registrar’s office: Admission Office, Franz-Josef-Straße 18, 8700 Leoben, Austria

All documents must be submitted in the original, first authenticated by the responsible institution in the country where they were issued (Ministry for Foreign Affairs) and finally authenticated by the Austrian representative authority in the country of issue (Austrian Embassy).

Documents written in foreign languages have to be translated into German or English. These translations also have to be authenticated by the institution in the country of issue and the Austrian representative authority.

  • Copy of passport or birth certificate/proof of citizenship combined with an ID-card
  • High-school diploma or equivalent certificate including all elected subjects and obtained grades
  • Bachelor diploma and bachelor transcript from an acknowledged technical university (H+ according to Anabin database)
  • Application for recognition of equivalence
  • Application for admission
  • Proof of experience or internships
  • Proof of English proficiency

Once you have been admitted:
