About

The cooperation with the Federal University of Espirito Santo (Portuguese: Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo, UFES) started in 2018, with Prof. Andreas Nascimento (former Petroleum Engineer from MUL), who is to date heading the Department of Engineering and Technology (DETEC) and is one of the drivers in the Petroleum Engineering Programs from the Campus Sao Mateus - UFES. UFES has approximately 20.000 students, spread in four campuses within the State of Espirito Santo. In Campus São Mateus, all is settled in an environment with approximately 2.300 students, 110 technician and administrative staff, and 190 professors/docents.

Our Partnership

First official agreement signed in 2018. Coordinated by Prof. Thonhauser (DPE/MUL) and Prof. Nascimento (UFES), with the accreditation of the Research Group in Petroleum/Natural Gas Engineering, Energy and Environment (GPEPEM-UFES) along with its research line “Well Drilling Digitalization - DPE/MUL” (Portuguese: Digitalização em Perfuração de Poços - DPE/MUL), by the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). The next steps are the development of joint projects focused in solutions for the subsalt (pre-salt) drilling activities in Brazil. Considering the formal starting steps for stablishing a HUB of DPE/MUL in Brazil already a reality, the projects to be developed may be supported by the Brazilian R&D Funds sourced by the Oil & Gas Operators with a focus on Automation and Drilling Optimization.

Student Exchange

Since 2018, two technical visits have been performed by UFES’ professor in MUL, and one bachelor student from UFES has already been enrolled at the Petroleum Engineering Program (MUL 2018/2019) for an exchange semester. Expectations are considering a continuous cooperation development with mobilization of two students per year by each institution, for lectures attendances as well as for development of technical theses.
